The principle is simple: a few cells are extracted from the mammary glands and then cultured in a medium where they can proliferate and then stimulated to produce milk. Breast milk produced in this way offers an alternative to infant milk from animals (cow’s milk) or plants (soya).

Unlike other companies in the sector (such as those involved in laboratory meat production), mammary cells are not the end product, so there is no need to continually develop new cells. Mammary cells can produce milk for several months.

But technically it would be possible to produce meat from human cells.

And the good news is that Biomilq has filed for bankruptcy. Biomilq was developing a technology for producing breast milk outside the human body. In other words, they were trying to create fake milk for babies. Biomilq’s investors include the usual suspects: Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson, Masayoshi Son, Jack Ma, Michael Bloomberg and Marc Benioff.
