OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUÉ
Buenos Aires, 5 February 2025 – The Office of the President informs that President Javier Milei has taken the decision to ban gender reassignment treatments and surgeries for minors.
Gender ideology taken to the extreme and applied to children by force or psychological coercion constitutes outright child abuse. Children do not have the cognitive maturity to make decisions about irreversible processes that in many cases involve the mutilation of healthy organs, and are likely to result in infertility, cardiovascular problems, and catastrophic mental health consequences. That is why pioneering countries such as the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and, recently, the United States, are backtracking, banning minors from undergoing these procedures.
On the other hand, in line with the frontal fight against gender extremism, the President of the Nation will also decree that the accommodation of prison detainees will be determined according to the sex registered at the time of the criminal act, to prevent anyone from using the excuse of gender change to request a transfer from the prison in which they are being held.
In addition, no man who has applied for gender reassignment prior to committing a crime may be housed in women’s prisons if he was convicted of sex offences, human trafficking or violent crimes against women, or if the prison assessment so determines.
This government was elected to end privilege and promote equality before the law. Ending child abuse wrapped in a gender agenda and ending the mischief of criminals are fundamental steps in this direction.
